The Power of Prayer, Giving Thanks & Gratitude
“Future medicine will be the medicine of frequencies” ~ Albert Einstein ~
From a yogic perspective it is essential to give thanks and gratitude to the forces of nature, which nurture, support and sustain our lives.
Basic physics teaches us that everything (including our thoughts, words, actions) is energy and therefore vibrates at a certain frequency. Because of this we really are creators of the reality around us. This means that everything is subject to our own energy and vibrations, including our food and how we feel about it.
Masaru Emotos’ (Japanese Doctor of Alternative Medicine and researcher) studies’ found that human consciousness could affect the molecular structure of water. He captured this beautifully when he exposed water to different words and intentions. Once frozen and photographed the ice crystals tell the story. See images below:-
If thoughts can do this to water – just imagine what they can do to your physiology! Be conscious and aware of your thoughts…
Recent studies with plants have also seen similar results. With plants which were subjected daily to nurturing, kind and loving words, or high frequency music, flourishing and blooming beautifully, verses plants in the same physical conditions which were subjected to hateful, negative words and music struggling to grow as fast, looking unhealthy and dying.
If positive prayer/ affirmation can affect the molecular structure of water and plant life, it can affect your food and everything else. When you think about it our food can contain up to 95% water and our own bodies are composed of around 70% + water after all.
Therefore, when you bless your food before eating the pure positive intention that you send out doesn’t only affect your food. Whenever you feel grateful you are giving thanks from your heart. The energy of gratitude has a very high vibration – the same as that of love.
It activates positive emotions and responses from the people around you and from the Universe. Feeling grateful is one of the best emotions’ you can choose to feel at any moment, it can literally transform your life.
Your gratitude also blesses all who were involved in the food’s journey and chain – from the earth, the rain, sun & soil that nourishes and helps it grow to the farmers, drivers, markets, grocers / sellers. All that is involved in producing this abundant harvest of nature.
Blessing your Food Before Eating
This is a beautiful practice to cultivate and become part of your routine – in giving thanks and gratitude before each meal. You can also say a mantra for bringing and imbuing a sense of peace and positive energy.
When you bless your food, you are simply energetically connecting with your food with positive intentions. In doing so, you change its molecular structure and raise its vibration.
The following example is a wonderful way to bless your food. You can use any of your own words and blessings as well:-
Take slow and peaceful breath in and out, close your eyes, connect to your higher self by going deep within your heart, focus that energy onto your food and affirm:
I bless you with pure love and light. I bless you with pure life energy.
I bless you and am grateful to you for bringing only strength, nourishment, wellbeing and joy to every part of my body.
I thank mother earth for providing this food and all the healing vibrations it brings to all the cells in my body on all levels.
You can also make an offering (mentally) of the food to your God, ancestors and / or Guru/ higher-self before eating it.
You can use which ever words feel right for you, this is just a suggestion.
If you do Reiki or another form of energy healing you can also use this as part of your prayer by visualising the symbol(s) over the food before you eat while channelling the universal cosmic energy of the highest light to your food, and with the intention to assimilate most beneficial nourishment of the food in your body.
A Sanskrit prayer I was taught to use before eating is:
Om Sahana Vavatu Mantra
Om Saha Nauvavatu |
Saha Nau Bhunaktu |
Saha Viiryam Karavaavahai |
Tejasvi Nau-Adhiitam-Astu Maa Vidvissaavahai |
Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih ||
Meaning in english
Aum! May we all be protected together; may we all be nourished;
May we work conjointly with great energy,
May our study be vigorous and effective and our intellect sharpened;
Let there be no animosity amongst us
Aum! Let there be peace in me!
Let there be peace in my environment!
Let there be peace in the forces that act on me!
You Can Also Bless Your Food While Cooking or Digesting It
Everything is vibration and connecting with your food energetically changes it’s molecular structure.
Blessing your food while cooking, or chanting / singing mantra it is a wonderful way of energising and making your food even more tasty and nourishing! I am sure you will notice and feel the difference!
Once you start doing this it becomes an automatic practice prior to and part of every meal, however if you forget to bless your food before eating it is okay. You can still bless your food and whole process of digestion, afterwards which will still work well.
When doing this, in the same way as before, you can take slow and peaceful breath in and out, close your eyes, connect to your higher self by going deep within your heart. Send flow of loving and helping energy or light to your stomach and affirm:
I’m thankful and grateful for all the food I enjoyed, and its healing and nourishing energy.
I love the food I eat and the food I eat loves me back.
I digest and assimilate perfectly and easily. I love and appreciate myself.
Try it and see how it works for you! I am confident you will notice a difference. Even the act of doing this itself automatically helps us become more conscious and aware of the food that we are eating. In Yoga it is important to eat our food slowly, quietly and consciously. It helps us to give thanks and gratitude, reverence to where it has come from, what we have to be thankful for in our lives and in turn assists the digestion process. All helping to raise the frequency!
